Field Herper
Field herping is the pursuit of finding reptiles and amphibians, referred to as herps in the scientific community. I designed a field guide app specifically for herpers, enabling them to track their life lists and document their finds.

Background
You may have heard of birding—the popular hobby of searching for and identifying birds. Field herping is the same idea, but for reptiles and amphibians. Think of it as a real-life version of Pokémon, where enthusiasts search for and document species in their natural habitats.
Unlike birders, who have several excellent apps available, herpers have fewer options tailored to their unique needs. I set out to change that by designing a dedicated field guide app. The app allows users to log sightings, build a comprehensive life list, and enhance their herping experiences—whether it’s for research, photography, or the thrill of discovering new species.
A self-initiated project, Field Herper brings modern tools to a passionate community, making it easier than ever to explore and document the world of reptiles and amphibians.
Design
Designing Field Herper meant balancing a vast amount of information with a clear and user-friendly experience. With nearly 20,000 species of reptiles and amphibians included, I focused on a clean, minimalist, and information-driven design style to ensure ease of use.
Species data is pulled from a community-sourced open database, allowing herpers to access accurate and up-to-date information.
